7 Bread Recipes for Every Occasion

By: Lodge Cast Iron / August 30, 2021

In the bread baking mood? No matter the occasion, we believe bread is a great addition to any menu. Whether you’re looking for something sweet or savory, we’ve got the perfect recipe to fill your home with the smell of freshly baked bread.

For a Housewarming Party: Banana Bread

This is the bread we make when we need a housewarming gift—bonus points if you prepare it in a Loaf Pan for them to keep. The secret to this bread? Buttermilk. It adds richness and moistens the bread. We’ll eat it for breakfast and dessert, and we’ll sneak into the kitchen to steal the last piece as a midnight snack.

For a Rainy Day: Classic Cinnamon Raisin Bread

We love to make this hearty, feel good classic on rainy days or when we are feeling under the weather. A slice of this bread served with a generous pat of butter and a hot cup of tea is sure to turn any day around.

For Afternoon Tea: Zucchini Lemon Bread

This zucchini lemon bread is the ultimate summer loaf. The recipe uses lemon and a hint of nutmeg to really show off what zucchini can do in this tasty bread. You can prepare this bread with 2 cups of whole wheat flour or 3 cups of all-purpose flour; both options bake beautifully!

For Baking with Kids: Chocolate Babka Loaves

We make this babka with a dark chocolate filling and cover it with a simple glaze. Chef Kris perfected this recipe with the help of his son, so it’s kid approved and a great way to get young chefs involved in the kitchen.

For Spaghetti Night: Pesto Swirl Loaf

Tired of serving garlic bread on spaghetti night? Fix this pesto loaf. This bread is filled with thick bands of homemade pesto and topped with parmesan and garlic powder. Serve this with your favorite pasta recipe or try one of our favorites, like this carbonara or this skillet baked spaghetti.

For a Picnic: White Sandwich Bread

This straightforward recipe adds homemade flavor to everyday sandwich creations and is the perfect side to your favorite soup. We like to top ours with butter, jam, or Nutella.

For Avocado Toast: Cornbread Loaf

We think a good cornbread recipe is an essential part of any southern kitchen. This is Sean Brock’s famous recipe from his restaurant Husk in Charleston, South Carolina. This cornbread tastes great alongside soups and chilis, but it’s also a great base for avocado toast. You’re welcome.
