7 Bread Recipes for Every Occasion

By: Lodge Cast Iron / August 30, 2021

In the bread-baking mood? No matter the occasion, we believe bread is a great addition to any menu. Whether you’re looking for something sweet or savory, we’ll help you find the perfect recipe to fill your home with the smell of freshly baked bread.

Banana Bread Recipe
For a housewarming party: Banana Bread

This is the bread we make when we need a housewarming gift—bonus points if you prepare it in a Loaf Pan for them to keep. The secret to this bread? Buttermilk. It adds richness and moistens the bread. We’ll eat it for breakfast and dessert, and we’ll sneak into the kitchen to steal the last piece as a midnight snack.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread
For a rainy day: Classic Cinnamon Raisin Bread

We love to make this hearty, feel-good classic on rainy days or when we are feeling under the weather. A slice of this bread served with a cozy bowl of soup and a hot cup of coffee is sure to turn any day around. We’ve also been known to replace the raisins with chocolate chips because we’re big believers that chocolate fixes almost anything.

Orange Pistachio Pound Cake
For afternoon tea: Orange Pistachio Pound Cake

While this is technically a cake recipe, it comes together beautifully (and we mean beautifully) in the Large Loaf Pan. The delicate citrus and pistachio flavors make it a tea party-worthy addition to the menu. Plus, it makes plenty to share—and we’ve never stopped after just one slice.

Chocolate Babka Loaves Recipe
For baking with kids: Chocolate Babka Loaves

We make this babka with a dark chocolate filling and cover it with a simple glaze. The Loaf Pan makes two loaves—one for you and one to share. Chef Kris perfected this recipe with the help of his son, so it’s kid-approved and a great way to get young chefs involved in the kitchen. If you’re not a fan of dark chocolate, simply swap it out for semi-sweet for a sweeter loaf.

Pesto Swirl
For spaghetti night: Pesto Swirl Loaf

If spaghetti has a permanent spot on your dinner menu each week, this Pesto Swirl Loaf will take it to the next level. It’s filled with thick bands of homemade pesto and topped with parmesan and garlic powder. Serve this with your favorite pasta recipe or try one of our favorites, like this carbonara or this skillet baked spaghetti. And if you have leftovers, pack a turkey pesto sammie for lunch!

Large Loaf Jalapeno Popper
For a picnic: Jalapeño Popper Sandwich Loaf

We took our classic sandwich bread and upscaled it to make a sky-high loaf in our Large Loaf Pan. It comes with all the fixings of a jalapeño popper: big cheddar studs, fresh jalapeño slices, and of course, cream cheese. Pile on bacon, lettuce, and tomato for the BLT of the summer, or layer it with slices of cheddar to make the grilled cheese of your dreams. Either way—don’t forget to slather on the Duke’s.

Roasted Garlic Loaf
For your bread-baking era: Roasted Garlic Loaf

This garlic loaf will make you feel like a baking pro, but it comes together pretty easily, making it a good recipe for folks who are just starting out. We bake this loaf in our 5.5 Quart Blacklock Dutch Oven, but any dutch oven of a similar size will do—cast iron or enameled! Serve it alongside a herbed olive oil dip for an easy appetizer.
