It's time for grilled brats! Here, we boil them in beer to cook, then give them a good charring on our beloved Sportsman's Pro Cast Iron Grill. Serve with dressed-up caramelized onions in a mustardy sauce, and bang: summer never tasted so good.
Directions
- Before you head outside, bring 4 beers to a boil on the stovetop. Add brats and lower heat to a simmer. Simmer sausages for 10 minutes, or until cooked through and puffy at the ends. Remove to a plate; reserve ¼ cup liquid.
- Move to the grill. Place a 9 inch cast iron skillet on the Sportsman’s Pro Grill and preheat both.
- Add butter to the skillet and melt. Add onions and cook, stirring infrequently for 10-15 minutes.
- To the onions, add brown sugar, salt, cayenne pepper and black pepper.
- Continue to cook 10 to 15 minutes more, splashing with reserved beer as needed to keep moisture. Cook until golden brown and glossy. Add grainy mustard and stir to incorporate. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as needed.
- Set brats on the Sportsman's Pro grill grate and cook until nicely charred, rotating as needed for uniformity.
- Remove from the heat, assemble brats, dig in.
