Searching for a cookie recipe that tastes like the holidays in every bite? These fit the bill. Bonus: Baking these also makes the house smell like the holidays. "This is a family recipe. My husband’s grandmother would make molasses cookies every Christmas," said Shannon Van Dusen, product development coordinator at Lodge. "He requests them every year. Eating one of these is like getting a hug from Grandma! Cue the tears." Make this easy recipe for cookie exchanges, neighbor deliveries, and more.
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a medium-size mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, spices, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted shortening, sugar, molasses, and egg. Whisk until well blended. Add the dry ingredients and combine.
- Next, cover the dough with plastic wrap and chill for one hour.
- Once dough is nicely chilled, use a tablespoon measuring spoon to scoop out the dough. Roll the dough into balls and then roll in sugar.
- Bake 9-11 minutes. Remove from oven and let cookies sit on baking pan for 3-5 minutes. Next, transfer cookies to wire rack to cool.
- For easy release of the molasses, spray the measuring cup with some non-stick spray before pouring in the molasses. It will just slip right out!
- This recipe can easily be doubled, so you can make enough to be the champ of the cookie exchange.
